NEWPORT / 0.9.0 BETA 1

Welcome aboard the beta.

Explore NewPort, try your usual planning workflow, and tell us where it helps—or gets in your way.

Install

  1. Use the signed and notarized download supplied for this beta. A file labeled PREVIEW-UNNOTARIZED is a local release candidate, not the public download.
  2. Open the disk image and drag NewPort Beta.app into Applications. If using the ZIP, expand it and move the app into Applications.
  3. Open NewPort Beta. macOS 14 or newer is required. The universal package contains Apple silicon and Intel builds. Intel hardware and the oldest supported macOS still need tester confirmation.
  4. Take the built-in tour, available again from Help → Discover NewPort — Guided Tour.

NewPort Beta uses its own preferences, caches and recovery folder. It opens the same project format, so use File → Save As to make a beta copy before editing important projects. The beta does not import your regular app’s recovery data automatically.

Try a short session

  1. Explore the chart: zoom, pan, resize the window and switch appearance. Check the overview and labels. Note the chart type and zoom when reporting rendering issues.
  2. Bring a small copy of your data: import GPX, make a waypoint and route, use collections and edit details.
  3. Plan trip: enter a boat profile, fuel and departure; inspect the estimates. The planning window is separate.
  4. Conditions: use the right panel’s map switches. Try sea temperature and chlorophyll, opacity and dates. Verify Fahrenheit/Celsius legends below the chart. Missing clouds/land coverage stays transparent.
  5. Save and reopen: confirm your copied project’s objects and settings are retained. Try Undo/Redo and a GPX or PDF export.
  6. Optional instrument bench test: use a simulator or a controlled Signal K/NMEA network. Test disconnect/reconnect and displayed freshness. Do not use the beta as your operational safety system.

Send useful feedback

Choose Help → Send NewPort Feedback, or use the beta bar’s Send feedback button. Add a summary, steps, expected and actual results. The report includes version, macOS and app architecture. Choose Prepare email to review a draft addressed to kevin@vcodeworks.dev, or copy/save the report for webmail.

For map issues, include the chart/data type, zoom, observation date and screenshot if you can. For a crash, attach the matching NewPort crash report only after reviewing it for private information. Project files, vessel data and instrument credentials are never attached automatically.

Before finishing

Save your work. Disarm any test watch and disconnect the instrument feed before quitting. This beta has no automatic updater or time-based expiry; install a later beta manually when a new download is announced.
